The colour of a façade is the most public decision you'll make about your home. It greets you every day, it sits within a terrace you don't control, and getting it wrong is expensive to undo. So it's worth slowing down before the scaffolding goes up.
Start with the street, not the swatch
Most London terraces have a rhythm — a palette that has settled over decades. On a run of pastel stucco in Notting Hill, or the crisp cream fronts of Belgravia, your house is one note in a longer phrase. That doesn't mean copying your neighbours. It means choosing a colour that belongs, then making it your own through tone and finish.
If your street sits within a conservation area, the choice narrows further. It's worth checking early, because the right advice at the start saves a repaint later.
Colour behaves differently outdoors
A shade that looks calm on a card can read very differently across a whole elevation in full daylight. North-facing fronts stay cool and flat; south-facing ones warm up and can wash out a pale colour by midday. Render, brick and stucco each take colour their own way.

The right coating for the surface is what keeps the colour true and the render sound. Breathable systems let masonry dry; the wrong film traps moisture and fails. A beautiful colour in the wrong product is a short-lived one.
